Go to: Attributes.
KeyingGroup sets may only contain animatable attributes and other keying groups.
Objects within keying groups can be designated activator objects. When a key is set on an activator object, it triggers keyframing of the other objects within the keyingGroup.
Maya also maintains a global keyingGroup filter preference which can be used to globally enable/disable all keyingGroups or to specify particular keyingGroups to be active. The category attribute may be used to designate a filter-able keyingGroup type.
