New Features in Autodesk® AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2018
Autodesk® AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2018 contains the following new features and enhancements.
Design Efficiency Updates
- Create feature lines that are relative to surfaces. For more information, see About Relative Feature Lines.
- Create profiles for offset alignments that are relative to the alignment baseline. For more information, see About Creating Offset Profiles.
- Create an alignment that transitions between two intersecting alignments and create a profile that transitions between their profiles. For more information, see About Creating Connected Alignments.
- Use a dynamic, extracted feature line as a baseline in the same corridor. For more information, see To Add Baselines to a Corridor and About Using Multiple Dynamic Baselines in a Corridor.
- Resolve corridor bowties in variable width corridors and in fixed width corridors that contain curves. For more information, see About Corner Cleanup for Corridors.
Production Efficiency Updates
- Move section views between section view groups and update the sheet layout. When updating the section view sheet layout, resized or inserted section views are respected. For more information, see To Move Section Views to a Different Section View Group.
- Manage section view annotation by adding it within or crossing the section view drafting buffers. Annotation and drafting elements that you add within or crossing the section view drafting buffers will be bound to the section views and will move along with the section views. - Create plan/plan and profile/profile sheets by including multiple plan or profile views on a single sheet. New drawing templates have been provided that have their viewports already configured for these sheet layout types, which you can select when laying out the view frames. Collaboration and Data Exchange Updates
- Export AutoCAD Civil 3D objects with the enhanced Civil View functionality for working with Autodesk® 3ds Max®. With this release, alignments, profiles, and pipe networks can now be exported. - Access commands for working with Autodesk® InfraWorks® and launch InfraWorks from the new Autodesk InfraWorks ribbon tab in
AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Integration of the Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 v1 Enhancements
The following features in the Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 v1 Enhancements have been integrated into AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018:
- Add Property Set Data to Labels: Add custom data to AutoCAD Civil 3D object labels by using property sets. For more information, see To Add Property Set Data to Labels.
- Analyze Gravity Network: Resize pipes and reset inverts and compute the energy and hydraulic grade lines according to HEC-22 2009 standards. You can use the Analyze Gravity Network utility to:
- Iteratively analyze a network using appropriate rainfall data
- Review results graphically and in a .csv file
- Modify the results and re-run the analysis
- Apply the results to the pipe network

Note: In AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018, the Analyze Gravity Network command now includes Normal Depth as an option for the tailwater condition, and the settings now include an option to use the structure frame dimensions for the inlet dimensions. For more information, see General Page (Analyze Gravity Network Wizard) and Analyze Gravity Network Default Settings Dialog Box. - Swap Pressure Network Parts: Swap pressure network pipes, fittings, and appurtenances with parts of another size or type. This utility enables you to select parts from either the current network parts list or from a part catalog. For more information, see To Swap Pressure Network Parts.
- Traverse Editor: Input and edit traverse data. Create points, lines, and curves representing traverse legs and sideshots using COGO input and editing tools. The traverse can be used to generate a polyline, COGO points, and a TRV2 traverse file which you can open in the Traverse Adjustment dialog box and apply an adjustment method. - Traverse Adjustment: Apply an adjustment method to traverse data. Perform traverse adjustments and generate reports using Compass, Transit, Crandall, and Grant Line adjustment methods, and update COGO points and traverse geometry within the drawing.
