Hardware Acceleration

You can enable or disable hardware acceleration in the Options dialog.

Revit offers 2 options relating to hardware acceleration.

Hardware tab: Use hardware acceleration (Direct3D®)

When you enable this option, Revit uses your system's graphics card to render views of the model. This option can result in improved performance, and the following graphic effects should work properly:

If you experience any undesirable graphic artifacts, you can disable the option. Revit then uses the Windows Advanced Rasterization Platform (WARP). It still supports the graphic effects listed above, but performance is generally slower.

When you enable Use hardware acceleration (Direct3D®), you can also enable the option Draw visible elements only. This option improves performance when you are navigating a view (such as a 3D view of a large model) by only drawing elements that are visible in the view. Revit does not attempt to render any elements that are hidden in the view as you navigate, such as stairs behind a wall.

User Interface tab: Use hardware graphics acceleration if available

This option improves performance when rendering the Revit user interface by making use of your available hardware.

If Revit has stability issues or the user interface doesn't render properly, make sure this option is disabled to force software emulation. This strategy can help to avoid issues with graphic cards and drivers.
