Licensing

Autodesk Vault Professional, Collaboration (2012 & 2013 only), and Workgroup (2012 & 2013 only) require licenses. You must install the Autodesk Network License Manager to configure and manage the license for these Vault servers. The following sections address a quick path for installing the Autodesk Network License Manager. However, it is recommended that you review the Autodesk Network License Manager Guide for additional information on activating and managing licenses with the Autodesk Network License Manager.

FLEXnet Configuration Tools

The Network License Manager is used to configure and manage the license servers. When installing the Vault server, the Installation wizard prompts you for information about the license manager, such as license server model and server name.

The Network License Manager uses FLEXnet® license management technology from Acresso Software. FLEXnet provides administrative tools that help to simplify management of network licenses. You can use FLEXnet tools to:

Note: For more information about FLEXnet configuration tools, see the Autodesk Network Licensing Guide.

SAMreport-Lite

SAMreport-Lite is a reporting tool that helps you track network license usage. SAMreport-Lite generates usage reports in various output formats, including HTML, text, and Report Interchange Format.

While not part of the network installation, SAMreport-Lite technology from Acresso™ Software is available to help you monitor client usage for Autodesk network licensed products.

To learn more about installing and using SAMreport-Lite, see the SAMreport-Lite User's Guide or click the Documentation link at the lower left corner of the Installation wizard.

Install the Autodesk Network License Manager

Vault Workgroup (2012 & 2013 only), Vault Collaboration (2012 & 2013 only), and Vault Professional have a licensing feature called the Autodesk Network License Manager Guide. This feature allows you to configure and manage the license servers. The Autodesk Network License Manager is used by other Autodesk products to manage license servers.

Note: If you are installing the Autodesk Vault Basic server, you do not need to install or configure the network licensing manager.

If you are installing FLEXnet on Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7, IPv6 is enabled by default. Refer to knowledge base article Autodesk TS1101507 for information on using the Autodesk Network License Manager with IPv6.
