What's New in Lustre 2023.2

Blackmagic Design RAW Update

Version 2.6 of BMD RAW is now supported, and adds the following features:

  • Support for Fujifilm XH2s Blackmagic RAW clips captured by Blackmagic Video Assist.
  • Adjustable white balance and accuracy for Panasonic GH5S and BGH1.
  • Improved white balance accuracy for Panasonic S1H, S1, S5, and BS1H.
  • Display of the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6 K G2 Gyro data in MediaHub > Metadata tab.

RED Update

Flame Family now uses RED SDK 8.3.1 which includes support for the V-RAPTOR XL camera, and minor bug fixes.

ARRI ARRIRAW Update

The Flame Family now uses ARRIRAW 7 to decode material from ARRI cameras. This major update introduces new capabilities and support for the new ARRI ALEXA 35 camera launched in June 2022.

New ARRI REVEAL Color Engine:

  • Transforms camera native RGB image data into the AWG4 colour space
  • Brings what the sensor sees closer to human visual perception
  • More subtle and accurate colour reproduction
  • Pleasing and naturalistic rendition of all skin tones
  • Better colour tracking and differentiation at all exposures
  • Much improved saturated colours (brake lights, neon signs)

New Colour Spaces:

  • LogC4 / ARRI Wide Gamut 4
  • Scene linear ARRI Wide Gamut 4

New content imported with the new ARRI Debayer Algorithm 7 (ADA):

  • Converts ARRIRAW into camera native RGB image data
  • Makes the most of the new sensor's capabilities
  • Generates cleaner colour edges for blue and green screen content
  • Support for ARRIRAW HDE in MXF format.

Limitation:

The following colour spaces are no longer available:

  • LogC native
  • LogC Film
  • LogC Monochrome
  • Scene Linear Native
  • Scene Linear WideGamut
  • Scene Linear ACES
  • Video P3
  • Video ITU709
  • Video ITU2020
  • Video DCI D60
  • Video DCI D65
  • Video Monochrome
  • Video ITU2100PQ
  • Video ITU2100 HLG

How ARRIRAW 7 Handles LogC3 Content

LogC3 is the colour space that was used for content created before the introduction of ARRIRAW 7. Flame Family products before version 2023.2 would decode ARRIRAW content using the LogC3 colour space.

LogC4 is the colour space now used for new content, either shot on new cameras such as the ARRI ALEXA 35, or on older cameras updated to the latest firmware.

Whenever you import content shot in LogC4, you are importing content using the ARRIRAW 7 decoder and using the ARRI Debayer Algorithm version 7 (ADA-7). You can set only Metadata, Resolution, and Image settings. The Debayer options are ignored. This is because the ARRIRAW SDK 7, which decodes ARRIRAW files, debayers only in Full Resolution, removing the ability to work with lower resolution content as in previous releases. You might want to generate Proxy when working with larger resolution content.

When you import content shot in LogC3, you are also importing content using the ARRIRAW 7 decoder. But in this case, the decoder uses an old version of the ARRI Debayer Algorithm, ADA-5. In this case, you can set Debayering settings in addition to Metadata, Resolution, and Image settings.

Also be mindful of the following limitations when working with LogC3 content.

If you are importing new media:

  • Use the colour space from the file.

Note: Do not tag LogC3 content as LogC4. More generally, do not apply a LogC4 LUT to LogC3 content as the rendering will be wrong.

If you are using LogC3 clips that were already imported when you installed Flame Family 2023.2 (or later):

  • For backward compatibility with content created in Flame Family product versions 2023.1 and earlier, LogC3 clips from converted projects, restored archives, or wired are always decoded using ARRIRAW SDK 6 and its options. This applies to the following clips:
    • ARRIRAW (.ari)
    • ARRIRAW (HDE)
    • ARRIRAW (MXF)
