Import Image Layer Options

Layer Type

Image – Imports the image as an image layer.

Mask(Luminance) – Imports the image as a mask layer, using the image’s luminance values as a mask.

Mask(Transparency) – Imports the image as a mask layer, using the image’s transparency (that is, its alpha channel) as a mask.

Note: When importing a PSD (Photoshop) file, the Mask(Luminance) and Mask(Transparency) options only apply if the file has a single layer. Otherwise, all layers are imported as image layers.
Always create New Canvas

If this option is checked on, the layer is imported into a new canvas created in the active window. If it is checked off, the import operation behaves as follows:

  • If there are picked canvas(es) and/or construction plane(s), the layer is imported into the first picked canvas or construction plane. (The construction plane is converted into a canvas.)
  • If nothing is picked, the layer is imported into the active canvas.
  • If there is no active canvas in the active window, the layer is imported into a new canvas created in the active window.
