Save, import, export, and reset preferences

Save your preferences (including hotkeys, shelves, marking menus, and so on) in a file, or load some or all of the preferences from a saved file.

The current option settings are saved and retrieved automatically.

When you exit Alias, the settings from option boxes and control windows are saved automatically.

When you launch Alias, the values from your previous session are retrieved.

Reset your preferences

Reset your preferences to the ones in place when you launched the current session of Alias or to the factory defaults.

Reset settings

  1. Choose Utilities > Tool Resets.
  2. For a given element on the left-hand side of the window, do one of the following:
    • Check the Reset box next to a shelf item to reset the options of shelf tools to the values they had when Alias started (beginning of current session).
    • Check the Factory Reset box to reset all options to the original Alias default values.
  3. Click the Apply Resets button at the bottom of the window.

Save a Preference Set

  1. Set up your menus, shelves, hotkeys, etc, the way you want them.
  2. Choose Preferences > User Preferences > Save.

Import a Preference Set

  1. Choose Preferences > User Preferences > Import.
  2. In the option box, ensure that the components you wish to load have check marks.
  3. Click Go.

    The file browser opens.

  4. Select the Preference Set that you want to load.
  5. Click Open.

    Your preferences are set. You do not have to restart Alias for them to take effect.

Export a Preference Set

  1. Set up your menus, shelves, hotkeys, etc, the way you want them.
  2. Choose Preferences > User Preferences > Save.

    The file browser opens.

  3. Type in a name for your Preference Set.
  4. Click Save.

    Your settings are saved in the specified file.
