Alias and Maya

Industry-leading Autodesk® Maya® software is now included with Alias Automotive, bringing additional value to conceptual designers. A rich feature set of polygonal and subdivision modeling tools, along with data-sharing capabilities, help speed early conceptual design and provide workflow interoperability between conceptual mesh modeling in Maya and Class-A surfacing in Alias.

Export a Maya file to Alias

  1. Choose File > Export All in Maya.
  2. Type a file name. Be sure to include the .wire extension.
  3. Select SPF_DCE as the file type.
  4. Click Export All.

Export an Alias file to Maya

You must have Maya 2014 installed to use the following workflow.

  1. Select all the geometry you want to export.
  2. Choose File > Send Selected to Maya in Alias.

Maya launches (if not already running) and the data, including modeling layers and shaders, is automatically imported and displayed.

Note: Because Alias has the Z axis (not the Y axis like Maya) pointing up by default, the model appears rotated on its side in Maya.
