To remove the Revit software, use the standard uninstall process. During the process, the following files in UserDataCache are deleted, unless they have been previously modified:
- MaterialUIConfig.xml
- OmniClassTaxonomy.txt
- Revit.ini
- shxfontmap.txt
- UniformatClassifications.txt
However, the standard uninstall process may leave behind some residual files and settings, which may interfere with a successful reinstallation of the software. When you need to completely remove the Revit software from a computer, including all residual files and settings, use the following procedure.
- Autodesk Revit Architecture 2014 or RAC 2014
- Autodesk Revit Structure 2014 or RST 2014
- Autodesk Revit MEP 2014 or RME 2014
- Autodesk Revit LT 2014 or RLT 2014
- Autodesk Revit 2014 or RVT 2014
In these instructions, substitute the current Windows login name for %username%, and the appropriate language code for ENU, where needed. Also, the paths listed reflect Autodesk Revit 2014. If you are using another edition of the Revit software, substitute the appropriate values, as follows:
To uninstall the Revit software completely
- Back up any custom Revit family files or template files.
- Log on as a Local System Administrator, and disable anti-virus software.
- Using the standard uninstall process, remove Autodesk Revit 2014 and Autodesk Material Library 2014.
- Use Microsoft® Windows Explorer to locate and delete the following Revit 2014 files and folders (and subfolders, where they exist):

- If you do not use any other Autodesk software, use Microsoft® Windows Explorer to locate and delete the following Autodesk files and folders (and subfolders, where they exist): CAUTION:Deleting these files and folders may interfere with the proper functioning of other Autodesk applications on the computer. Delete them only if you are sure that they are not required.

Use the Microsoft® Registry Editor only at your own risk and only after backing up the registry as well as the system.dat and user.dat files as outlined for your operating system in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and in the related solution, TS66513. - Restart the computer.
- If you plan to reinstall the Revit software, do the following before starting the installation program:
- Use Microsoft® Windows Explorer to locate and delete the contents of your Windows Temp folder. You can locate the Temp folder by entering %TEMP% in the address bar of Windows Explorer. Note: Do not delete the Temp folder itself. Only delete its contents.
- Log on as a Local System Administrator, disable anti-virus programs, and end their task processes.
Now you can safely reinstall the Revit software.
- Use Microsoft® Windows Explorer to locate and delete the contents of your Windows Temp folder. You can locate the Temp folder by entering %TEMP% in the address bar of Windows Explorer.
- Restart your anti-virus software.
