Export building components

Create an ADSK file that contains the model, connector data, and other necessary information to communicate with AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP.

  1. On the ribbon, click Environments tab Begin panel BIM Exchange .
  2. Simplify the model using Shrinkwrap and LOD Representations.
  3. On the ribbon, click BIM Exchange tab Manage panel Export Building Components .
  4. Select Revit Family File (RFA) or Autodesk Exchange file (ADSK).
  5. In Component Type, click browse to display the Component Type dialog box. Expand the component type categories and select the closest matching component type. Click OK to close the dialog box.
    Note: Use the search field to display only classifications including the search text. Further refine the search scope using the Look in feature.
  6. Modify values in the Component Properties as needed.

    The Component Properties list varies depending on the component type selected. Click the Model Property filter to add or remove properties from the list. To exclude model properties entirely, remove clear the check box for Model Property.

  7. In the Orientation list, select the orientation you want to use. If the Thumbnail Preview is set to Automatic, the Home view is used for the ViewCube orientation. To change the origin, click the sphere in the triad and then select a model vertex.
  8. Optionally, to modify the thumbnail preview, import an image file of your own.
  9. Optionally, to display a summary of model information for an ADSK file, click Check Design.
  10. Optionally, to display a summary of model information for a RFA file, click Check Revit Features.
  11. To retain the modifications, click Apply Changes. To complete the settings and display the Export Building Component dialog box for saving the dataset, click OK. After you use Apply Changes, Cancel does not reverse the modifications.
  12. In the Export Building Components dialog box, specify a name and location for the file, and click Save to export the model.
