Each report type requires a configuration (.cfg) file to process the information from the harness assembly and create a report. Sample configuration files for each of the main report types are provided in the Tutorial Files\Cable&Harness\Report Generator directory where you installed Autodesk Inventor.
Autodesk recommends using these sample files as a starting point to save time used for data entry and to reduce input errors.
To create a new configuration file or modify an existing configuration file, use Edit Configuration file on the Report Generator toolbar.
- Double-click the Harness assembly, and then click
Cable and Harness tab
Manage panel
Report

- Select the Edit .cfg file command from the Report Generator toolbar.
- Identify the CFG file to use:
- To create a new file, browse to the appropriate directory location, enter a unique name for the file, and then click Open.
- To edit an existing file, select the file from the list, browsing if needed to locate the file, and then click Open.
- On the Info tab, view the information displayed to ensure you have selected the correct configuration file. Scroll if necessary to read all the information. Click in the input area to add to or modify the text.
- Click the Filter tab, and then select the items to process for the report:

- To add columns, click Insert Column , indicate the insertion location, and then click OK.
- To delete columns, click Delete Column, specify the column to delete, and then click OK.
Note: To change the order of existing columns you must add a column in the new position, transfer the data (re-enter or cut and paste contents of each cell) from the previous column location into the new column location, and then delete the column in the previous location.
- To enter data, click in the input boxes in each column, and then enter the data. If an arrow appears, click the arrow to select from the list.
Note: The property Name row can use keywords that enable functions within the report generator.
- Click the Format tab and fine-tune the output format by setting the sorting, multiple file handling, and formatting options.
- Click OK to display the Save As dialog box, and then save the file. Click Cancel to close the dialog box without any changes.
After you create your own custom configuration files, you can use those as a base for new reports or further customizations.
