Move or rotate feature

Drag, or use 3D Move/Rotate to relocate a feature.

Drag to relocate an extrude, revolve, or sweep feature, or use 3D Move/Rotate to enter precise coordinates relative to selected geometry.

Show Me how to use 3D Grips to move a feature

Note: On the ribbon, click Tools tab Options panel Document Settings . In the Document Settings dialog box, Modeling tab, 3D Snap Spacing box, set the Distance Snap and Angle Snap increments.
  1. In the part browser, right-click the feature, and select Move Feature.

    In Move Feature, you can right-click and select Commit And Move to accept the current changes, and switch to 3D Grips.

  2. In the graphics window, click the feature, and drag to a new position.

    When dragging, you can snap center points to other center points of circles, edges to other edges, and so on.

  3. Use 3D Move/Rotate to position the feature precisely. To display the triad, either:
    • Click Tab.

      or

    • Right-click, and select Triad Move.
  4. Click the triad to redefine alignment or position:
    • To rotate around the selected axis, click a triad axis, and drag.
    • To move in the direction of the arrow, click a triad arrowhead, and drag.
    • To move in the selected plane, click a triad plane, and drag.
    • Click the triad sphere, and drag freely in any direction.
  5. If appropriate, right-click and choose an option:
    • After dragging the feature to a new face, click Redefine. You can no longer drag the feature.
    • To reposition the feature temporarily, click Tentative drag.
    • To leave the feature in position, but move the triad, click Move Triad Only.
    • To switch off the 3D Move/Rotate dialog box, click Cruise Move. Click Tab to reopen it.

      If a feature is confined to a work plane, you cannot use Cruise Move. When the feature is selected, the 3D Move/Rotate dialog box opens automatically.

  6. In the 3D Move/Rotate dialog box, enter values to correspond with the selection on the triad.
  7. Click Apply, and then continue to refine the position. Click OK to quit.
  8. To quit, click OK.
Note: 3D Move/Rotate moves a feature a precise distance, but breaks the association of the feature to a face of the solid model.
