This command is designed to:
- Create a substitute part for every subassembly within the active assembly.
- Create a named Level of Detail representation containing that part within each subassembly.
- Activate the newly created Level of Detail representation within each subassembly.
Working within an assembly:
- On the ribbon, click
Assemble tab
Productivity panel
Create Substitutes
.
-
A dialog box displays a list of the first-level subassemblies of the active assembly with a proposed name and location for the resulting substitute part files.
- Optionally, change the default naming scheme for the substitute part files with an alternative suffix, or select the Prefix option and add a prefix string.
- Click Apply to change the naming scheme, or click Revert to return to the previous naming scheme.
Note: You can manually edit the name of any of the proposed substitute part files. Slowly double-click the file name you wish to change, and then enter the new name.
- Optionally, provide a more meaningful name in the Level of Detail Name field.
Note: If you plan to apply all of these substitutions at one time using Link Levels of Detail, it is useful if all of the Level of Detail representations have the same name.
- Right-click any row and select Remove row to prevent that subassembly from being processed when the command creates substitute parts and named Level of Detail representations.
- Click OK to create the substitute parts and named Level of Detail representations, activate the newly created Level of Detail representations in each subassembly, and close the Create Substitutes dialog box.
The active Level of Detail representation in each subassembly is used when the substitute part is created for that subassembly. For example, if “All Content Center Suppressed” is active in a subassembly, then the substitute for that subassembly would not include any Content Center components in the substitute.
Note: Click Cancel at any time to disregard all input, terminate any further processing, and close the Create Substitute dialog box.
