Work with view representations

Use the View node at the top of the browser to preserve a part display configuration. Then you can recall it by name when you next work on the part. You can use view representations to store color overrides, work feature visibility, view orientation, and browser expansion states.

View representations are saved in the current part file, and are available to any designer who has access to the part.

Create view representation

  1. Define the part viewing characteristics you want to preserve in the view representation.
  2. At the top of the browser, right-click the View node, and then click New.

A new View Rep node is added to the browser, nested under the View node. It becomes the active View representation, as designated by a check mark. A number is appended to the View node.

  3. If appropriate, click the view name to activate the edit box, and then enter a new name.

Give your view representation a descriptive name to help you remember its content.

  4. Right-click the view representation, and then select one or more of the following to set additional attributes:
    • Lock Prevents changes to the view representation display characteristics.
    • Copy Duplicates the current view representation and activates it. An incremental number appends the name.

Edit View representation

You can delete, activate, or create a view representation.

  1. In the part browser, click View to expand, right-click a view representation, and then select Activate.
  2. Make the necessary changes to the display of the part.
  3. Save the file to preserve the changes to the View representation.
Note: After you finalize your representation, in the browser, right-click the representation and select Lock. Lock ensures that the representation does not update with changes to the display.

Restore view representations

Use this method to apply a named view representation to a part file. The display resets to the configuration saved in the view representation. All edits you made to the part since you saved the view representation are applied to the view.

  1. In the part browser, click View to expand, and then select the view representation.
  2. Right-click the view representation, and select Activate, or double-click the representation.

Delete, activate, or copy view representations

  1. In the part browser, click View to expand, right-click a view representation, and then select an action:
    • Delete
    • Activate
    • Copy
    • Lock
Note: To delete multiple view representations at once, in the browser, click to select multiple views, right-click, and then select Delete.

If the active view representation is deleted, the Master view representation is set to active.
