Create an iFeature from a sketch, and then use the sketch points to position geometry or use the sketch as a layout when creating other features.
You can position an iFeature when placing it in a part file by selecting any sketched line or point.
Many designs require the same pattern of holes or cuts. An iFeature that contains a sketch with the points already positioned saves time and prevents errors because its configuration is the same each time the iFeature is used.
For example, a sheet metal punch pattern can be used in many designs. Using sketch points to specify placement of the punches, you can place the pattern by selecting points. The points can be specified in the drawing and used by a machine operator to set up a machine or used by a numeric control program.
Use a layout sketch to position geometry. When features are positioned the same way in multiple parts, using iFeatures containing layout sketches ensures accurate positioning. For example:
