Modifying an automatically created Standard joint

Modifying the joint type

You can modify automatically created standard joints depending on their type. As you modify them the joint representation updates. Suppressing constraints modifies joints by removing or adding degrees of freedom. For example, removing the axial constraint changes a revolution joint to a planar joint. Likewise, suppressing a revolution joint face mate constraint results in a cylindrical joint. The suppressed constraint is moved from being a child of the joint node to being a child of the component node with which it is associated in the assembly.

Modifying the origin or coordinate system axis

You can edit and modify joint coordinate system of automatically created standard joints. Depending on the joint, you have access to different editable entities and the ability to change origin or/and direction of the joint coordinate system axis. For example, by editing a revolution joint and inverting the Z axis, the rotational velocity will change to a positive or negative value.

To modify the origin or coordinate system of an automatically created joint.

  1. Right-click the joint node in the browser and click Edit.
  2. In the upper section of the dialog box, you can change the Z direction using the Reverse command.
  3. Click the Origin selection command to reposition the joint origin or coordinate system.

The following table lists the editing options for automatically converted constraints:

You can also suppress constraints that contribute to automatically created joints. When you do, the joint type will change to reflect the edit. In the browser, the suppressed constraint is displayed under the component node and moved from being under the joint node.
