Render Image dialog box

Specifies general settings for rendering images.

When you select the Shaded or Illustration render type, it is applied to the entire image. Only one type can be applied at one time. Changes to the applied type must be done as a post process in an image editor.

General tab

Width and Height

Specifies the width and height of the rendered image. To use the Measure command or choose from most recently used values, click the arrow on the input box and select from the menu. You can adjust any value in the input box.

Select Output Size Provides a list of values from which you can select for output size.

Lock aspect ratio

When selected, maintains the aspect ratio defined by the current image width and height.

Camera

Specifies the camera for the active document.

The default is Current View when no camera is specified. Current view, uses the view camera.

Lighting Style

Provides a list of lighting styles from which to select. If no lighting styles are available, images are rendered with the standard lighting style from the modeling environment.

If an image based lighting (IBL) style is used in the model environment, and you select Current lighting in the Render Image dialog box, only the standard lights from the lighting style will be used to render the scene.

Scene style

Provides a list of scene styles from which you can select. If no scene styles are available, images are rendered with the current Autodesk Inventor background.

When using Current background as the scene style, the active modeling environment settings for ground shadows and reflections apply to the rendered image.

If you select Current background and are using image based lighting with the Display Scene Image option ON, the image from the Application Options > Background is used. IBL background images are not supported as Studio backgrounds.

Render Type

There are two render types. Shaded uses the assigned appearances and materials. Illustration provides stylized options. Options are defined by the type selection.

Visual Styles are not referenced for the output.

Output tab (Render Image only)

Save Rendered Image

When selected, activates the file browser, and starts the Open dialog box where you can enter a name, select a location, and choose a BMP, JPEG, PNG. GIF, or TIFF format for the rendered image.

Browse window

Shows the path and file name selected or entered to save the rendering. Click the browse icon on the right to start the Open dialog box. Available when Save Rendered Image is selected.

Anti-aliasing

Specifies no anti-aliasing.

Specifies low anti-aliasing.

Specifies high anti-aliasing.

Specifies highest anti-aliasing.

Note: The highest quality anti-aliasing setting is recommended only when you are using soft shadows and depth of field.

Style tab - Shaded

True Reflection

Scene objects reflect on shiny surfaces. If not selected, the image map specified in Appearances or Scene Styles is used and rendering takes less time.

Color Fill

Source

  • No Color Removes all color. Renders using only lines.

    Appearance Renders the image with Appearance colors assigned to the various components. This is the default.

    Specify Renders the image using a color you specify for all components in the assembly or part model. Overrides the default appearance.

 

Levels Represents color levels with a slider. The default is 2. Not available if no source is selected.

Show Shiny Highlights When selected, shows a highlight with a specular value of 50%. Not available if no source is selected

Edges

  • Show Outline Edges Render includes the outside edges of the component.

    Show Interior Edges Shows the edges inside the outline of the component.

    Thickness Controls thickness with the slider or edit box. Range is 1.0 to 5.0 and the default is 1.0. Available when Show Outline Edges or Show Interior Edges is selected.

    Color Specifies the color of both the outline and interior edges.
