Gate Location Advice

Displays Gate Location advice obtained through the Results Adviser dialog box.

The display can be investigated (mouse:right click), to obtain information on the relative suitability of the current cross-hairs location as an injection location.

The number from 1 through 10 gives a value for the relative suitability. Less than ideal areas have associated warnings that display in the warnings box of the dialog box.

Warning Explanation
High geometric resistance detected If an injection location is in that position, indicates that over packing can occur.

To resolve::

  • Pick another gate location
  • Balance flow
Thin area detected The part thickness in this area is less than half of the average part thickness. When injecting into a thin area, it is likely that the thin area will freeze first. In that case, pressure is not applied to the thicker areas as they freeze. The thicker parts of the model are under packed, causing uncontrolled shrinkage, warpage, and/or possible sink marks.
Difficult processing conditions

The Gate Location analysis could not satisfy its criteria.

To resolve :

  • Try a less viscous material.
  • Review the number of gates used.
Possible edge detected

The Gate Location analysis could not satisfy its criteria.

To resolve:

  • Try a less viscous material.
  • Review the number of gates used.
Small molding window

The Gate Location analysis could not satisfy its criteria.

To resolve:

  • Try a less viscous material.
  • Review the number of gates used.

Important: Do not base part design solely on the Gate Location results. Run a full analysis.
