Add a cable definition to the library

Use the New command in the Cable & Harness Library to add a new library cable definition to the Cable tab. You must specify the cable name, a value for the outer diameter, and at least one cable wire. If desired, you can group cables into existing categories or categories you create. Other optional properties can also be set, along with any custom properties you need.

The wires must exist in the library before the library cable definition can be created.

  1. On the ribbon, click Cable and Harness tab Manage panel Library .
  2. In the Cable & Harness Library dialog box, click the arrow to select Cable from the type list.
  3. Click New .
  4. On the General tab enter a unique cable Name.

    If the name is not unique, you are prompted to change the name before proceeding.

  5. Optionally, provide a Part Number and select an existing Category or create a new Category.
    • To select an existing category, choose a category from the list.
    • To create a new category, enter the category name. Once a category is created it is available from the list of categories.
  6. Select the needed Outer Diameter setting:
    • For a fixed diameter, clear the check box and enter a diameter value
    • For a variable diameter, select the Calculate from Wires check box.
  7. Optionally, add a Bend Radius multiplier. To inherit the bend radius from the cable wires, select the Calculate from Wires check box.
  8. Click the Wires tab, and then click Add to add wires to the cable definition. You must add at least one wire.
  9. In the Add Wires dialog box, select a wire from the list of library wires, and then click Add.
    Tip: You can also right-click the library wire in the list, and then select Add to Cable. Double-clicking the wire in the list also adds the wire.
  10. Continue adding wires until all wires that make up the cable are added, and then click OK.
  11. If appropriate, click the Custom tab, and then add additional properties to the library cable definition.

    The Name list includes property names given to other cables in the library, and the Type list includes possible data types that can be assigned to properties. The property names and values are not case-sensitive, however, the case entered is maintained for future display of the property name and value.

  12. Click Apply to save the library cable definition to the library, and then continue editing that library cable. Click OK to create the cable definition and close the dialog box.
    Note: If the required properties are not defined or if the values entered not correct, the entry in question is highlighted red to indicate that it must be changed or entered. Make the needed corrections before proceeding.
  13. Click Save to save the definition to the Cable & Harness Library, and then click Close to close the dialog box.
