Import harness data

Use the Import Harness Data command to automatically add (connect) multiple wires and cables in the harness assembly in addition to other harness information. You can create these files yourself using a text editor or spreadsheet, or you can import this data from other applications including AutoCAD Electrical. You can import this data multiple times with the same or different import files.

You can import wires onto splices and connectors. Only connectors are valid when importing cables. When using the .xml format, you can also import additional harness data such as properties and virtual parts. Neither format supports the import of a connector, splice, or pin.

Note: To verify electrical part data prior to importing the harness data file, you can run a report of all the electrical parts that are defined in the import file. Use this list to make corrections and ensure that there are no missing parts.
  1. Double-click the harness assembly to receive the imported harness data.
  2. If not yet assigned, assign all reference designators on the appropriate connector and splice occurrences used in the harness data file.
  3. On the ribbon, click Cable and Harness tab Manage panel Import Harness Data .
  4. Click Browse for the Harness Data File (.xml or .csv) to locate and open the file.
  5. If importing a .csv file, click Browse to locate and open for the Configuration File (.cfg).
  6. To add the harness data to the active harness assembly, click OK. To close the dialog box without importing the harness data, click Cancel.

The Imported Harness Data dialog box is displayed. This dialog box indicates any issues encountered during the import. It also enables you to correct these issues and add other needed data. Other details of the import are listed in the log file, including updates to wires and cables, and errors associated with the import.
