Edit components in place

To edit a part in a subassembly, activate the subassembly and select and activate the part to edit. In an active subassembly, you can delete a part, change its ground status, display degrees of freedom, or designate a component as adaptive. You cannot directly edit parts.

Shaded display shades the active part. All other components display in wireframe. With wireframe display, the active part is in normal wireframe, and the inactive components display in shaded wireframe.

  1. In the graphics window or the browser, double-click the part to edit.
  2. Right-click the part, and then select Edit Feature.
  3. Use the sketch and feature commands to add, edit, or delete features.
  4. Save the part file. The changes you make are reflected in all occurrences of the part in the assembly file (and other assemblies that use the part).
  5. When you finish editing, on the Quick Access toolbar choose one of the following options to specify where you want to continue editing:
    • Return - returns to the previous editing environment.
    • Return to Parent - returns to the parent component in the browser.
    • Return to Top - returns to the top-level assembly in the browser.
    • Right-click and select Finish Edit to continue working in the current file.

To choose another component to edit, select it in the browser, right-click, and then select Edit. If you prefer, double-click the component in the browser.

Note: An adaptive part can resize in response to changes in size or position of other components.
