Groove Pulley Properties dialog box

Sets properties of a grooved pulley in V-Belts Component Generator.

Access:

Ribbon: Design tab Power Transmission panel V-Belts and click the Design tab. On the Pulleys section, click Pulley Properties.
Note: This dialog box is displayed only if you select the Groove Pulley.

OK

Click to confirm the selection and close the dialog box. Enters the values to the Design tab.

Cancel

Closes the dialog box.

For a grooved pulley, it is not possible to change belt the direction counterclockwise. The direction is always clockwise.

At least one grooved pulley is required within a transmission. All others might be flat. You must make sure your transmission is valid.

Design Guide

Use to control the size of the driven pulley based on a diameter specified, or appropriate transmission ratio. Select the Diameter option to retain the pulley size when you change the size of the driver pulley. If you select the Transmission Ratio option the pulley size cannot be entered by user but it is determined by size of driver pulley and transmission ratio. If you change the size of the driver pulley, the size of this driven pulley changes as well. For standard pulleys the generator finds the closest standard diameter. For custom pulleys, the diameter is calculated precisely.

Custom size

Specifies a custom pulley size. By default the pulley size is standard, and is driven by a data table stored within the Design Data folder. The data template is a fast and easy way to set up pulley size by changing the diameter of the pulley. If the custom size option is on, you are responsible for all pulleys' properties.

Custom number of Grooves

When selected, you are able to set custom number of grooves for the pulley. By default, the number of grooves is adopted from number of v-belt property. If you decide to use more grooves than belt uses in a given belt drive, some of the grooves become unused for such particular belt drive. However, within an Autodesk Inventor window there is an option to select which groove is used for the belt. You can use the currently unused grooves later in cascade belt drives.

Power ratio

Power ratio magnitude is from 0.0 to 1.0 and corresponds with the amount of power that is distributed by a given pulley. If the power ratio is 0.0 it is considered an Idler. The first pulley (driveR) always has 100% power, so the power ratio is 1.0.

Friction factor

Specifies the friction factor for the specific material of the pulley. Note: See the Calculation of Strength Proportions chapter in Engineer's Handbook.

Dimensions

Modifies the pulley dimensions.
