ViewCube views

The ViewCube provides 26 defined areas you can click to reorient views. The areas are categorized into three groups: corner, edge, and face. Six of these areas represent standard orthogonal views of a model: top, bottom, front, back, left, and right. You set these standard views by clicking one of the faces on the ViewCube. The other 20 defined areas access angled views of a model.

When the ViewCube is in freeform orientation, and not oriented to one of the 26 predefined views, its outline displays as dashed. When the orientation is constrained to one of the predefined views, its outline displays as a solid continuous line.

You can click and drag the ViewCube to reorient the view of a model to a custom viewpoint. As you drag, the mouse pointer changes. If you drag the View cube close to a preset orientation, and it is set to snap to the closest view, the ViewCube rotates to the closest preset orientation.

The mouse pointer changes to an arrow with a small cube when it is over one of the clickable areas of the ViewCube. Also, a tooltip based on the location of the mouse pointer, displays describing the action that you can perform.

Home view

The Home view stored with each model makes it easy to return to a known or familiar view. You can define any view of the model as the Home view, and you can apply that Home view to other views.

You can define a Home view as:

  • Fixed Distance Specifies the direction of the view and the extent of the model that fills the view.
  • Fit to View Specifies the direction of the view, and the extent is always 'view all'. The initial Home view of legacy documents is set to Fit to View.
