You can embed or link a Placement Help to an iFeature, such as a Word document, HTML file, or spreadsheet. You can also embed a Web page from either an intranet or the Internet. When a document is available, an Information button displays on the Insert iFeature dialog box.
Placement Help is nested under the 3rd Party icon in the browser. Double-click the document to view it in its native application.
Embedded documents
- Add contents of the document to the iFeature file, increasing its size by the size of the document.
- Changes to the original file do not update the contents embedded in the iFeature.
- You access the application that created the file when you open the document.
- The contents remain accessible from the iFeature file, even if the original document is deleted. The exception is an HTML file with supplementary files such as graphics images. If the supplementary files are deleted or the link is not valid, a broken link message appears.
Linked documents
- Contents of the document are not added to the iFeature, but reside in a directory or URL. Add the file name and directory path or URL to the iFeature.
- Changes to the original file automatically update the document in the iFeature.
- You access the application that created the file when you open the document.
- The document is not available when the linked file is deleted. or if the link is not valid when the design element is placed.
Windows shortcut to Web page

- If you move or delete a Web document or associated files such as graphics images (.gif or .jpg), a broken link message appears.
