Question: When migrating from R2008 to R2014, do you need to migrate to intermediate releases?
Yes and no. Consider the various factors: Autodesk Inventor is only supported and tested 3 releases back.
- Migrating R2008 to R2010 to R2014 should be fine.
- Migrating R2008 to R2014 could be problematic
Other factors can increase the risk when:
- Older releases did not have style libraries. Styles were stored in the files themselves.
- Older releases stored View Reps in private IDV.
- Older releases used Access database to store Content Center files.
Question: Do I need to set the "Prompt to save for migration" option on in Application Options dialog?
- Only when you want to migrate all files immediately and want to have a dialog prompt you to save files.
- If you do not need to migrate all files immediately, do not check this option in the Application options.
- This is important for Vault and Data Management solutions in general to avoid unnecessary revisions.
- This option is ignored and does not lead to file being made dirty when "Prompt to save for migration" application option is unchecked (default setting).
