Wire and cable occurrences inherit the general properties that were created at the library-level, as well as unique occurrence properties that are stored within the assembly in which they are placed. When specific properties are needed for the occurrence in an assembly, you can override the library-level property value with an occurrence property value.
Property data can be added or modified on the occurrence. For wires, only the Wire ID is required at the occurrence level. For cables, only the Cable ID and at least one cable Wire ID is required. All other properties are optional. For cables, you can also add and modify properties on the cable wire occurrences that make up the cable just as you do with other wires.
In the Wire Properties, Cable Properties, and Cable Wire properties dialog boxes, custom properties added to the library wire or library cable are displayed with a dark background. Library properties on the wire or cable can be replaced on the occurrence, and then restored to their original library-level value as needed.
Add or override library-level wire or cable properties
- In the browser, double-click the harness assembly.
- In the browser, right-click the wire or cable, and then select Harness Properties from the context menu. You can also double-click the wire or cable in the browser to display the Properties dialog.
- In the dialog box, click the Display tab to set the appearance, and determine whether the wire or cable wire is displayed as rendered or centerline, or in the loom or wire appearance. You can also view and change the order of any assigned looms.
- Click the Virtual Parts tab to assign virtual parts to the selected harness object.
- Click the Custom tab to add new properties or modify existing properties.
- To add new properties, enter a Name, Type, and Value, and then click Add.
- To modify existing properties, select the property to modify, change the settings as needed, and then click Modify.
- For cables, click the Wires tab, and then double-click a cable wire in the list to edit the cable wire's properties. Click Apply to continue modifying or adding properties or OK to finish.
Restore library-level properties on the occurrence
If a property value is overridden on the wire occurrence, the library-level value appears in the lower-left side of the dialog box. If the value differs from what is displayed in the table, it has been overridden. You can restore this value if desired.
- In the browser, double-click the harness assembly.
- In the graphics window, right-click the wire occurrence, and then select Harness Properties from the context menu.
- Select the Custom tab and select any custom property displayed with a dark background.
- Right-click and select restore.
- Click Apply to continue restoring library-level properties or OK to finish.
