Add a wire definition to the library

Use the New command in the Cable & Harness Library to add a new library wire definition. You must specify the wire name, material appearance, and outer wire diameter. You can group wires into existing categories or categories you create, if needed. Other optional properties can also be set, along with any custom properties you need.

  1. On the ribbon, click Cable and Harness tab Manage panel Library .
  2. In the Cable & Harness Library dialog box, click the arrow to select Wire from the type list, and then click New .
  3. On the General tab enter a unique wire Name under the Properties section.

If the name is not unique, you are prompted to change the name before proceeding.

  4. Select an Appearance from the list.
  5. Under Physical group, enter a value for the Outer Diameter.
  6. Enter a Part Number, Gauge, and Core Size, if needed.
  7. Optionally, select an existing Category or create a new Category:
    • To select an existing category, choose a category from the list.
    • To create a new category, enter the category name. Once a category is created it is available from the list of categories.
  8. Optionally, add a Bend Radius multiplier.
  9. Click the Custom tab and add additional properties to the library wire definition, if needed.

The Name list includes property names given to other wires in the Wire Library, and the Type list includes possible data types that can be assigned to properties. The property names and values are not case sensitive, however, the case entered is maintained for future display of the property name and value.

  10. Click Apply to save the library wire definition to the library, and then continue editing that library wire. Click OK to create the wire definition and close the dialog box.
Note: If the required properties are not defined or if the values entered not correct, the entry in question is highlighted red to indicate that it must be changed or entered. Make the needed corrections before proceeding.
  11. Click Save to save the definition to the library, and then click Close to close the dialog box.
