How do fonts and text work in Autodesk Inventor LT?

Autodesk Inventor LT uses the same Microsoft Windows and TrueType fonts used by most Windows-based programs. When you translate 2D data from a DWG file, you can map the fonts in the DWG file to the fonts used by Autodesk Inventor LT.

Note: If you do not require AutoCAD objects translated into Autodesk Inventor LT objects, you can directly open any AutoCAD DWG (.dwg) file in Autodesk Inventor LT, and then view, plot, and measure the file contents. Objects display exactly as they do in AutoCAD. In addition, all the AutoCAD data is selectable for Copy/Paste so you can open an AutoCAD DWG file in Autodesk Inventor LT, and then copy and paste AutoCAD entities into an Autodesk Inventor LT sketch.

Mapping fonts

When you import (translate) a DWG file in Autodesk Inventor LT, the translator attempts to map the fonts in the AutoCAD file to the Windows and TrueType fonts on your system.

The results are displayed in the DWG Import Advanced Options dialog box. You can accept the default mapping or reset the substitution for any of the fonts.

Once you set the mapping for a standard AutoCAD font, the translator stores the setting and uses it each time you import a DWG file.

If there are custom fonts in the AutoCAD file, the translator attempts to map them as well.

Text styles

In Autodesk Inventor LT drawings, you can define text styles, much like the text styles in AutoCAD.

When you translate a DWG file to an Autodesk Inventor LT drawing, the translator creates an Autodesk Inventor LT text style for each uniquely formatted piece of text in the DWG file. If the file contains text with style overrides, a style is created for each override.

You can use the font mapping in the DWG Import Advanced Options dialog box to change the style mapping for the translation.

Once the text styles are in the drawing file, you can modify them and use them in the same way as styles created in Autodesk Inventor LT. To make your styles available in new files, add them to the drawing templates that you use to create drawings.
