Runner modeling planes

You can add one or more modeling planes to aid in creating runners. You can also edit or delete runner planes that you have created previously. Runner planes are created parallel to the X-Y plane; you can specify the depth of a runner plane on the Z axis.

  1. Click Runner Planes (Geometry tab > Feed System panel > Runner Planes). The Runner Planes dialog appears.
  2. To add a new runner plane, in the Runner planes area, click the Add button. A new runner plane name appears in the list of planes, and a new set of runner plane markers appears in the display.
  3. In the Plane properties area you can change the default name of the plane if required.
  4. Specify the depth of the runner plane on the Z axis in one of three ways:
    • By clicking the Top or Bottom button to move the runner plane to the top or bottom of the cavity.
    • By specifying the Z depth of plane . This is the distance of the runner plane from the origin, along the Z-axis.
    • By dragging the yellow markers in the model pane. Release the mouse when you are satisfied with the runner plane location. The value in the Z depth of plane text box is automatically updated.
Tip: Click the Bottom View of the ViewCube to display the model in the best orientation for working with the parting plane, and select the Display Grid box to display a grid assisting you in selecting a location.
Note: If you selected the Snap to grid option in the Grid settings area, the location that you select will move to the nearest grid point.
  5. To edit a runner plane,
    1. In the Runner planes area, click on a runner plane in the list of available runner planes.
    2. In the Plane properties area, change the name or location of the selected runner plane as described in Step 3.
  6. To delete a runner plane,
    1. In the Runner planes area, click on a runner plane in the list of available runner planes.
    2. Click the Delete button.
  7. Click Apply to save your changes.
  8. Add additional runner planes, as necessary, and then click OK to save and close the dialog.
Note: If you have defined a parting plane or you have specified a three-plate mold with a split plane, these planes will appear in the list of runner planes for reference, but you cannot use the Runner Planes tool to edit or delete the parting plane or the split plane.
