Using Cutting planes

There are defaults to easily specify cutting planes in the XY, YZ, or XZ planes. You can also define customized cutting planes and display multiple cutting planes simultaneously.

  1. Click Edit (View tab > Cutting Plane panel > Edit). The Cutting Planes dialog appears.
  2. Select the check box for the required cutting plane(s).
Note: To define a customized cutting plane, rotate the model to the desired orientation and click New. A cutting plane will be generated through the part that is parallel to your computer screen.
Tip: The Flip button reverses the side of the cutting plane that is displayed.
  3. Click Make Active. The cutting plane highlighted in the Cutting Planes dialog is activated and the Move Cutting Plane dialog appears.
  4. Click and drag the left mouse button up and down the screen to adjust the cutting plane's position in the model.
Note: You can also use the following alternative methods:
    • In the Move Cutting Plane dialog, select the By Distance tab and enter a distance for the plane to move.
    • Select the To a Point tab and specify the coordinates of a point that the cutting plane must pass through.
  5. To deactivate cutting plane mode, click Edit (View tab > Cutting Plane panel > Edit).
  6. In the Cutting Planes dialog, clear the checkbox for the cutting panes no longer required.
  7. Click Close.
