Specify the default type, shape, size, and orientation of all new gates.
To access this dialog, click ().
The properties of existing gates will not change. You can override these defaults when you create or edit a gate.
Note: Some attributes can only be changed as a default setting, they are not available for specific gate properties.
Dialog elements
Note: Some of the items listed below may not be available on the current dialog. This is dependent on the type of gate selected.
Tip: To change the existing gate properties, select the gate, and then right-click and select Properties.
- Gate type
- Choose a hot or cold gate.
Note: Although you can use both hot and cold gates with a hot runner system, you cannot use hot gates with a cold runner system.
- Gate Shape
- Choose the gate shape.
Note: As each gate shape is selected, a description is shown in the section below.
- Start diameter (1)
-
Note: Some of the items listed below may not be available on the current dialog. This is dependent on the type of gate selected.
Specify the cross-sectional diameter of the gate where it intersects with the parting plane.
- End diameter (2)
- Specify the cross-sectional diameter of the gate where it intersects with the part.
- Center line radius (R)
- Specify the radius of the arc which passes through the centers of both the start and end cross-sections.
- Diameter (1)
- Specify the cross-sectional diameter of the circular, or semi-circular gate.
- Width (1)
- Specify the cross-sectional width of the rectangular gate.
- Thickness (2)
- Specify the cross-sectional thickness of the rectangular gate.
- Width (3)
- The value specified in this box is used to setup a second width for your gate. This gate dimension is indicated by the number 3, displayed on the gate description above.
- Thickness (4)
- The value specified in this box is used to setup a second thickness for your gate. This gate dimension is indicated by the number 4, displayed on the gate description above.
- Outer diameter (1)
- Specify the outer diameter of the annular gate cross-section.
- Inner diameter (2)
- Specify the inner diameter of the annular gate cross-section.
- Temperature
- Select to use either the melt temperature or a user defined temperature for the heated annular gate.
- Orientation
- Select the method by which the size and orientation of the gate is defined.
If a horizontal gate is selected, you can also determine how the gate is sized.
Note: This option can be set independently for a hot or cold tapered gate.
Gate options:
- Vertical-Sets the gate perpendicular to the model and in the Z-direction.
- Horizontal by angle-Allows you to use an angle to calculate the length of the gate.
- Horizontal by length-Allows you to use a distance to calculate the length of the gate.
- Horizontal length
- Specify the length which represents the distance between the gate/model interface and the gate/parting plane interface.
This length is used in the derivation of the gate length.
Note: This value can be set independently for a hot or cold tapered gate.
- Default Angle
- Specify the default acute angle between the parting plane and the center line of the tapered arc gate.
Note: This value can be set independently for a hot or cold tapered gate.
Note: Any angle in the range 90-180 degrees, and 270-360 degrees will be treated as exactly 90 degrees, that is perpendicular to the parting plane.
- Rotate Gate
- Rotate a Circular Tapered Arc gate to any angle between 0 and 359 degrees, around its axis. The axis is determined by the start and end points of the gate.
