Optimizing runners/gates/sprue sizes

The Runner Adviser analysis takes into account the material and geometry of the part and runner system, to calculate the best runners, gates and sprue dimensions. You can then accept these suggestions to optimize your runner system.

  1. Open or create a model with a runner system.
  2. Click Analysis Sequence (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Analysis Wizard). The Analysis Wizard appears.
Tip: You can also set the analysis sequence from the Tasks tab.
  3. Select Runner Adviser, step through the other tabs and change as appropriate, and then click Analyze to perform the analysis.
Tip: You can also start the analysis sequence from the Tasks tab, once the Analysis Wizard is saved.

After the analysis completes, the Summary pane appears.

  4. Click the Runner Adviser tab. The Runner Adviser tab shows the potential volume adaptations, or savings that can be made when the runner system is fully optimized.
  5. To collectively accept all of the changes, click Apply All.
  6. To review individual changes, and approve or reject as appropriate, reference the Sprue; Runners and Gates table section.
Tip: Click the Original Size or Advised Size value to highlight the relevant runner section in the model pane.
  7. Click Apply to accept the individual optimization.
Note: When you apply the first change, all analysis results for that study are invalidated. It is possible to undo the applied changes, but the results are not retrievable. When prompted, save the study with a new name if you wish to keep your current results.
