Temperature at flow front is too high

About this result

The Quality Prediction result indicates that this area of the part may have quality problems. This is because the temperature at the flow front for the point you have selected is too high for the material you have chosen. There may also be other problems.

If a part has a yellow or red Quality Prediction result, find out why. If it is due to high temperature, try making some of the changes recommended below.

If the part is mostly green with some small yellow areas, it may be acceptable, but you should look carefully at the other result displays to see exactly where and why the results are wrong.

Problems caused by high temperature

In areas where the temperature at the flow front is too high, material degradation and surface defects can occur. Ensure that the temperature at the flow front is always within the recommended temperature range for the polymer you are using.

What to do

The following options are available to improve the result:
  • Increase the injection time to slow the flow of plastic into the cavity, which will reduce the shear heating.
  • Increase the part thickness, which will also reduce the shear heating.

Gate implications

If the temperature is too high, resizing a gate may reduce high temperature caused by shear stress in the gate. Increasing injection time alone or in conjunction with a larger gate may also help, but caution should be used because part temperature can drop.

Note: A feed system can be controlled as a means of giving minimum viscosity, without degrading the material in the barrel.
