Defining the parting plane

The parting plane is the plane where the gates will be modeled, and is parallel to the X-Y plane.

  1. Click Set Parting Plane (Geometry tab > Mold panel > Set Parting Plane).
  2. Move the parting plane to the required position.
You can move the parting plane in one of four ways:
    • Click on the injection location.

This moves the parting plane to the exact Z-axis depth of the injection location.

    • Click the Top or Bottom buttons.

This moves the parting plane to the top or bottom of the cavity.

    • Specify the Z depth of plane.
Note: Because the parting plane is always parallel to the X-Y plane, you can specify a parting plane location by specifying a depth on the Z-axis. This is the distance of the parting plane from the origin, along the Z-axis.
    • Alternatively, click and drag a red marker up and down the screen.

A grid appears, assisting you in selecting a location.

    • Release the mouse when you are satisfied with the parting plane location.

The distance from X-Y plane value is automatically updated in the Z depth of plane field for your selection.

Tip: Click the Bottom View of the ViewCube to display the model in the best orientation for working with the parting plane.
  3. Click Apply to view your change, and then click Close.
Note: If you selected the Snap to grid option in the Grid settings area, the location that you select will move to the nearest grid point.
