Balancing a runner system

Use the Runner Balance analysis to balance plastic fill through a runner system that is not naturally balanced.

The Runner Balance analysis investigates the mold and determines which runner sections should be made thicker or thinner. The runner layout will stay the same.

  1. Open or create a model with a runner system.
Tip: Set runner balance constraints for your runners to optimize them to within a minimum and maximum range, where possible, or to stop them from resizing.
  2. Click Analysis Wizard (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Analysis Wizard).
  3. Select Runner Balance from the Select analysis sequence list, and then step through the Wizard.
  4. Click Analyze to begin the analysis.
Tip: You can also click in the Study Tasks panel, or Start Analysis (Home tab > Analysis panel > Start Analysis) after the wizard is closed.
  5. When the Summary pane appears, select the Runner Balance tab.
  6. To collectively accept all of the changes, click Apply Changes.
  7. To review individual changes, and accept or reject as appropriate, reference the Runner and Sprue tables.
    1. Click the Original Size or Balanced Size value to highlight the relevant runner section in the model pane.
    2. Click Apply to accept the suggested balanced size.
Note: When you apply the first change, all analysis results for that study are invalidated. It is possible to undo the applied changes, but the results are not retrievable. When prompted, save the study with a new name if you wish to keep your current results.
