Gate Location Advice

Gate Location advice is obtained through the Results Adviser dialog.

The display can be investigated (mouse:right click), to obtain information on the relative suitability of the current cross-hairs location as an injection location.

The number between 0 and 1 gives a value for the relative suitability, and less than ideal areas will have associated warnings that are displayed in the warnings box of the dialog.

Warning Explanation
High geometric resistance detected

This result indicates that overpacking might occur if an injection location is located in that position.

You can resolve this by:

  • Picking another gate location

  • Balancing flow

Thin area detected

The part thickness in this area is less than half of the average part thickness. When injecting into a thin area, it is likely that the thin area will freeze first. If this happens, then pressure will not be applied to the thicker areas as they freeze-that is, the thicker parts of the model will be underpacked, causing uncontrolled shrinkage and hence warpage and/or possible sink marks.

Difficult processing conditions

The Gate Location analysis could not satisfy its criteria.

You can resolve this by:

  • Trying a less viscous material.

  • Reviewing the number of gates used.

Possible edge detected

The Gate Location analysis could not satisfy its criteria.

You can resolve this by:

  • Trying a less viscous material.

  • Reviewing the number of gates used.

Small molding window

The Gate Location analysis could not satisfy its criteria.

You can resolve this by:

  • Trying a less viscous material.

  • Reviewing the number of gates used.

Important: You should not base part design solely on the Gate Location results. You should always run a full analysis.
