Prepare the study results

Open a study that has been analyzed and add plot notes to the results.

Before generating the report, it is important to check the relevant default settings for report generation. These settings will be described in detail through the tutorial.

  1. Click > Options, and then select the Reports tab.
  2. Ensure the Default reports format is set to HTML document and click OK.
  3. Click Open Project, Get Started tab (Get Started tab > Launch panel > Open Project) and navigate to the tutorial folder (typically C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Simulation Moldflow Adviser xxxx\tutorial, where xxxx is the software version).
  4. Select the Reports.mpa project and click Open.
  5. Select cellphone_study in the Project View pane. The cellphone model is displayed.
  6. From the Study Tasks pane, select the Fill Time result. The top right hand corner of the Model pane shows that the part will take about 0.8 seconds to fill.

Comments about this result can be entered in the Study Notes panel.

  7. Click User Interface, View tab (View tab > Windows panel > User Interface) and select Notes from the drop-down menu. There are two tabs available: Study Note and Plot Note.
    Study Note
Enter your comments about the study as a whole in the Study Notes. These comments are not added to the final report. When the study is duplicated or saved with a new name, the Study Notes are kept in both the original and new studies.
    Plot Note
Enter comments about the displayed result in the Plot Notes. You have the option to include these comments in the final report you produce. Every result has its own Plot Notes. When the study is duplicated or saved with a new name, the Plot Notes are not included in the new study.
  8. Select the Plot Note tab and enter the following information: The Fill time result shows that the part will fill in about 0.8 seconds.
Tip: To save time the text can be copied from this tutorial and pasted in the Plot Note tab.
  9. Select the Pressure at end of fill result.

In the Plot Note tab enter the following information:

There is an imbalance in the pressure distribution at the end of fill. This could cause warpage.

  10. Select the Temperature at flow front result.

In the Plot Note tab enter the following information:

The variance of this temperature is 6°C which means any weld lines formed will be of good quality.

  11. Select the Weld lines result.

In the Plot Note tab enter the following information:

Although there are a lot of weld lines in the part, the flow front temperature difference across the part is 6°C. As this is less than the maximum variation of 10°C, the weld lines should all be of good quality.

  12. Click Save Study, Quick Access toolbar Save Study on the Quick Access toolbar at the top of the window, to save the new notes.

You can now generate a report containing the results and their associated plot notes.
