Compression surface property result

In compression type molding processes, the surface of your model must be assigned the "compression surface" property type. There are three (3) compression element property types, depending upon where the surface resides in the mold.

The part surface nearest the fixed plate, is assigned the property fixed surface; the part surface nearest the polymer charge is the compression (moving) surface; elements on the side become the side surface. The Compression surface property result shows which surface of the part has been assigned which compression surface property.
Note: This result is produced only by a 3D injection-compression molding or 3D compression molding analysis.

Using this result

The Compression surface property plot can be used to identify the Compression element (3D) property values that were defined on the compression part mesh when the model was prepared for analysis. If you examine the model closely using the Examine tool in the Results ribbon, the nodes will be shown with a numerical value.
  • A value of 1 means the element is included in the compression surface, which moves during compression.
  • A value of 2 means the element is included in a fixed surface, which does not move during compression.
  • A value of 3 means the element is on a side surface, which can move in the compression direction but does not move in the direction normal to the side surface.
