How Room Volume is Computed

Because volume computation may affect Revit performance, it is turned off by default. Turn it on only when you want to prepare and print schedules or other views that report room volumes. To turn on volume computation, see Enabling Volume Computations.

When it computes room volumes, Revit does the following:

• Determines the room area. See Determining the Area of a Room.
  Note: Room volumes are computed to the wall finish, regardless of the Room Area Computation setting.
• Determines the room height. See Defining Room Height and Considering Ceilings and Floors in Room Volume Computations.
• Uses the room area and the room height to compute the room volume.
