Optimizing the Operating System for Performance

On the server, verify that the paging file size is optimized for your system. The paging file should be at least the size recommended for Windows and at most twice the amount of installed RAM. Larger page files may provide more memory to the program platform, but performance could degrade noticeably with expanded page files.

Set the following in System Properties:

  1. For Virtual Memory, change the Initial and Max values to 4092 (2 * 2GB) for a 2GB machine.
  2. For Visual Effects, uncheck:
    • "Fade or slide menus into view."
    • "Show window contents while dragging."
    • "Slide open combo boxes."
