With the
Autodesk eTransmit for Revit add-in, you can copy a
Revit model and dependent files to a single folder for Internet transmission. You can transmit any model that has been
upgraded to Revit Release 2012 or later and saved.
Important: During the transmittal process, eTransmit copies the versions of the host model and linked files that are stored on disk. Make sure that you save any desired changes to your files before running eTransmit.
Note: Revit Release 2011 and earlier files can be transmitted, but they cannot be upgraded and will not be checked for additional linked files.
You can select to:
- Include related dependent files such as linked models and DWF markups. (See File Types Not Included When Transmitting a Model.)
- Upgrade the Revit (.rvt) model and linked models to the current release.
- Remove unused families, materials, and other objects from the Revit projects to reduce file size.
A common problem when sending Revit models to someone is neglecting to include dependent files. In some cases, not including these files can make the model unusable by the recipient. With Autodesk eTransmit for Revit, dependent files can be included automatically in the transmittal folder, reducing the possibility of error. All fully specified (absolute) paths of dependent files are converted to relative paths or "no path" to ensure that the dependent files can be located by the model.
Common uses for Autodesk eTransmit for Revit:
- Internal archiving
- Sending deliverables to clients
- Model exchange between consultants/partners
- Model cleanup
- Sharing models between disciplines
- Upgrading models
Workflow Overview
- Ensure that all models are closed. On the eTransmit panel of the Add-Ins tab, click Transmit a Model.
- Select the model, a target directory, and file types to transmit.
- Optional: Select to open and save models in the active version of Revit (upgrade).
- Optional: If upgrading, select to purge unused families and other Revit objects.
- Autodesk eTransmit for Revit inspects the model, and repaths and saves all linked files and external files in the target directory. If the options were selected, the files are also upgraded and unused objects are purged before the files are saved to the target directory.
- Optional: Open the transmitted model in the target directory to validate transmission.
- Send the model by e-mail, FTP, or another method.
- The recipient opens the transmitted model.
- For a workshared model, the recipient selects an option in the Transmitted model dialog.
