Changing the Role for an Instance of Revit Server

Each instance of Revit Server is assigned up to 3 different roles (Host, Accelerator, or Admin) at the time of installation. Use the following procedure to modify the RSROLE2014 environment variable to enable or disable roles as needed.

Important: If you are switching the Host role from one instance of Revit Server to another, there are additional steps you must take before and after editing the environment variable. See Switching the Host Role from One Revit Sever to Another.
  1. Click StartControl Panel.
  2. Click System and SecuritySystem.
  3. In the Control Panel Home pane, select Advanced system settings.
  4. On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
  5. In the Environment Variables dialog, under System Variables, select the RSROLE2014 variable name, and click Edit.
  6. In the Edit System Variable dialog, for the Variable value, enter new roles or delete existing ones as needed, and click OK.
Note: Role names must be specified in English in the form of a comma-delimited list. The order does not matter. For example, if you want a Revit Server to perform all 3 roles, the Variable value could be Host, Accelerator, Admin or Admin, Host, Accelerator and so on.
