Before you upgrade the central model to a new release of Revit, it is recommended that you create a backup copy of the central model for each workshared project in the current release. These backup copies are for use only if a new central model becomes corrupted.
Attention: If there are linked models in the central model, the linked model files must be upgraded before the central model.
To create a backup copy of the central model in your current release of Revit
To upgrade the central model to a new release of Revit
- Instruct all team members to synchronize with central, relinquish all elements, and close their local copies of the central model. See Synchronizing with the Central Model.
- Use Windows Explorer to make a copy of the central model and its backup folder.
- Open the central model in the new release.
Tip: Open the central model with the Audit option to identify and fix any possible corrupt elements. This process is more time consuming, but will prevent potential problems. See
Opening a Revit Project File.
- Click Save As (Project).
- In the Save As dialog, click Options, and in the File Save Options dialog, select Make this a Central Model after save.
- Click OK.
- Navigate to the directory with the upgraded central model and name it accordingly.
- Click Save.
Note: Backups of the central model will restart, after it has been upgraded in this manner.
- Instruct all team members to open the central model and create a local copy of it using Save AsProject. Alternatively, use the Create New Local option in the Open dialog.
