Restoring a Previous Version of a Server-Based Central

To restore a previous version of a server-based central model, use one of the following two workflows.

Follow these steps to roll back a local copy of a model and promote it to function as a new central model:

  1. Identify a workstation with a local copy of the central model you wish to roll back.
  2. Launch Revit.
  3. Click Collaborate tabSynchronize panel(Restore Backup).
  4. In the Browse for Folder dialog, navigate to the backup folder, and click Open.
  5. A dialog will open, showing the most recent versions of the .rvt file.
  6. Select the version whose date and time correspond most closely to the period you wish to roll back to and click Save As... to save this older version as a new model.
  7. Open and detach this new model and save it to Revit Server as a new central model.
  8. Direct users to cut new local copies from this new central model and resume their work.
  9. Optional: Back up the old copy of the model and delete it from the server.

Follow these steps to restore a copy of the central model from your backup.

  1. Notify users that the model will be rolled back and that activity must be halted.
  2. Launch Radmin and lock the model you wish to roll back to block user activity.
  3. Optional: Back up the model.
  4. Delete the model.
  5. Verify that the model's cache has been deleted on each local server.
  6. Restore an older, archived model to the server:
    1. If the model was archived as an .rvt file, open the .rvt file in Revit and save it to Revit Server as a new central.
    2. If the model was archived as a folder from the Revit Server Projects directory, simply copy that folder back into the Revit Server Projects directory.
  7. Have users cut new local copies from this new central model and resume their work.
Note: In each of these cases, rolling back the central will cause users' local copies of the model to sync with central.
