Calculation Restart

Select Analysis > Calculation Restart to restart calculations of selected cases while retaining the results of previously calculated cases. Calculation Restart becomes available after full calculations are made. The result status on the top bar of the program window will display Results (FEM): available.

Restart of calculations enables modification of calculation parameters or solving methods for any analysis type and running calculations only for selected cases. This function is particularly useful in dynamic or non-linear analysis of large structures due to their extensive solution times. Taking advantage of the restart option, only selected cases calculate, whereas the remaining results are available and unchanged.

In linear analysis, sometimes certain load cases do not reach convergence for the calculation methods and defined parameters. Using the restart option, you can change calculation parameters (for example, the number of load increments or criterion to stop analysis) and then restart calculations only for these cases.

In dynamic analysis it may turn out that the calculated number of eigenvibration modes does not satisfy the criterion of the assumed mass participation. This does not show a complete load in the seismic analysis. The restart option can calculate successive eigenvalues retaining the vibration modes calculated earlier.

Select defined cases and click Define parameters. The calculation parameters of the resulting dialog depends on the defined analysis type:

Any parameter may be modified before calculation restart. Calculation of eigenmodes for the modal analysis consists of calculations of a greater number of eigenmodes without repeating the calculations of the already existing modes. After activating the Calculation restart - calculations of additional modes, determine the requested number of modes (all other parameters are inaccessible). Specify a full number of requested modes, not just the number of modes to be additionally calculated. The option for additional calculation of eigenmodes currently uses the block subspace iteration method. The method of solving the modal analysis changes if existing modes have been calculated using a different method.

Modify analysis parameters and click OK. The edited case is activates and is going to be recalculated. If modification of calculation parameters of a given case require recalculations of other cases (such as modal and seismic analyses), then they all are selected for recalculation. You can give up calculation restart for a given case by deselecting it from the case list. If case parameters are modified, but the case has been deselected, it is marked with a red icon.

Click Restart calculations to run calculations on those cases which are selected on the list. Results of the remaining cases are available and unchanged.

Click Cancel to close the dialog with the list of cases. Modifications of calculation parameters are not retained.
