Context Menu Options

The context menu options are accessed from the selected node in the File Reference pane or from the background menu of the External References palette window.

The type of node selected and status of the selected node determines which commands are available.

Open

Opens selected file in a new AutoCAD window.

Attach

Attaches a new instance of the selected file node reference into the current drawing. If the host file is not yet checked out, you are prompted to check out the file before the new reference is attached.

Note: The newly attached files are not automatically added to the vault. You must check in the newly added file reference into the vault for it to be added as a dependency of the host file.

Attach from Vault

Use to reuse and share files. Browse through the vault and select a file to attach to the current drawing. The resulting attachment is a library or shared file. The term Library File appears in the tooltip after the file name for the file that is attached from a library folder in the vault. A file not attached from the library folder is a shared file. Only image and drawing files can be attached. You must check the host file out of the vault to attach a file from the vault.

Unload

Unloads the selected file reference from memory. Unloading a file results in the drawing opening faster and using less memory. The xref definition is unloaded from the drawing file, but the pointer to the reference drawing remains.

Reload

Updates the xrefs in the current drawing. You can cancel the download by clicking the Cancel button on the progress dialog box.

Detach

Detaches selected file reference from the current file. You must check out the host file out of the vault to remove it as a file reference.

Bind

Embeds an externally referenced file into the drawing file so that it is no longer an xref. If you bind an xref into the current drawing, the xref and all its dependent named objects become a part of the current drawing. You must check the host file out of the vault to use this command. If the local copy of the xref is older than the version in the vault, you are prompted to get the latest version.

Check In

Adds a file to the vault and creates a new version of the file.

Check Out

Reserves and locks the master file. Retrieves an updated copy, if necessary.

Undo Checkout

Removes the reservation/lock from the master file. The master file is now available for others to check out. Any modifications made to the local copy are not checked back into the vault.

Refresh from Vault

Gets the correct version of the drawing from the vault and then reloads the file.

Refresh All Files from Vault (AutoCAD Electrical only)

Gets the correct version of all project drawings from the vault and then reloads the files.

Get Revision

(Available in Autodesk Vault Workgroup, Collaboration, and Professional.)

Checks out a specific revision of the file and copies it to the local folder.

Change State

(Available in Autodesk Vault Workgroup, Collaboration, and Professional.)

Modifies a file or group of files' lifecycle state to enforce certain process behaviors.

Revise

(Available in Autodesk Vault Workgroup, Collaboration, and Professional.)

Creates a new revision of a file or selected group of files.
