To apply custom updates to a predefined data model

This procedure creates a data model file that is based on an existing data model template. Note that you can modify the existing data model only slightly. You can change captions and descriptions, and a few other properties.

  1. In the Infrastructure Administrator, do one of the following:
    • Click Enterprise and connect to the enterprise industry model . Open a project.
    • Click File and open an industry model drawing or template.
  2. Click Setup menu > Industry Model Editor.
  3. In the Industry Model Editor, click File menu > New.
  4. Enter a description, such as Water Country Kit.
  5. Enter a data model code.

For customer-specific data model enhancements, use a data model code > 100.0.0. See also Overview of Data Models.

  6. Select Extend Existing Data Model, and select the predefined data model, such as Water data model.
  7. Click OK.

The data model structure is displayed in the Data Model Explorer tab.

  8. Continue to add your modifications.

For example, modify a caption, add domain table entries, create intersections, or add feature classes and topics. Use the context menus. They work in the same way as the Data Model Administrator commands.

  9. Click File menu > Save As.
  10. Enter a name for the data model file (*.genx).

The (*.genx) file only stores the modifications on the existing data model, and references the data model code of the existing data model.

  11. Close the Industry Model Editor.
