To import Autodesk IMX data

Import AutoCAD Civil 3D data into Autodesk InfraWorks 360 using a .IMX file format.

Note: You can not import IMX 2012 data into InfraWorks and you can not import IMX 2013 data into InfraWorks 360 2012.

1. To export to IMX from AutoCAD Civil 3D, use Output tab Export panel Export IMX.

   Consult the AutoCAD Civil 3D documentation for further instructions.

   To export to IMX from InfraWorks 360, see Export to IMX.

2. In InfraWorks 360, click .
3. In the Data Sources panel, do the following:
   • Click Add File Data Source.
   • Click Autodesk IMX.
   • Open the file you exported.
   • Select the feature classes to import.

     Each feature class will appear under its respective category in the Data Sources list. For example, imported surfaces will appear under Terrain.

4. Once the data source appears in the Data Sources panel, double-click it to configure it.
5. On the Data Source Configuration screen, do the following:
   • Specify a name for the feature class and, optionally, a description.
   • Specify the object type that the data represents.

     Click the entry under Type and select an appropriate entry. For example, select Pipelines if you're importing pipes, Roads if you're importing a corridor, or Terrain if you're importing a surface.

6. To change the co-ordinate system, origin, offset, scale, or rotation for the data, click the Geo Location tab.

   Generally, InfraWorks 360 can position the incoming data automatically, based on the data itself.

7. To set options specific to IMX, click the IMX tab.

8. To add a tooltip for the layer, click the Tooltip tab.

   A tooltip displays at the top of the right-click menu for the data. For more information, see Create Tooltips During Data Import.

9. Click OK & Refresh to apply your changes and see the effects in the model.

Advanced Tips

You can have only a single ground surface in each model, but you can use proposals to show different surfaces. For example, create one base ground. Then create a proposal and import a second surface within that proposal, containing the proposed ground. Switching between the proposal and the master version will change the appearance of the terrain.

If you change the co-ordinate system, make sure to specify the co-ordinate system of the incoming data (not the co-ordinate system of the model). If the imported data uses a different co-ordinate system than your model uses, InfraWorks 360 will transform the data to the model's co-ordinate system, without changing the original data store.
