The Welcome Screen

Provides learning information, methods to create a new scene or open recent files, and access to various Autodesk resources for 3ds Max.

There are three tabs on the Welcome Screen:

Learn
Features a list of 1-minute Startup movies, as well as other learning resources, including links to the 3ds Max Learning Channel, the 3ds Max Learning Path, and downloadable sample files.
Note: When you select a 1-minute Startup movie, you are taken to a Web page to view the movie, which requires an Internet connection. From this Web page you have the option to download all of the 1-minute Startup movies to your computer (www.autodesk.com/3dsmax-essentials).
Start
Allows you to open a recent file or create a new scene. You can choose from the listed recent files or click the Browse button to search for a different file.
Note: You can manage your list of recent files by editing the file RecentDocuments.xml, which can be found in the root folder where 3ds Max is installed.

To create a new scene, choose a template from the Start-Up Templates panel. Once you have chosen a template, click New Using Selected Template to begin work.

Extend
Features ways to extend the capabilities of 3ds Max.

You can discover one of the featured apps from the Autodesk Exchange store, as well as a list of useful Autodesk resources, including Autodesk 360 and The Area. You can also add to your scene by clicking the Autodesk Animation Store link, and the Download Vegetation link.
