3ds Max can import the WIRE format from Alias and other applications, as well as the comparable APF (Autodesk Packet File) format used by Autodesk Showcase and other applications. You can also export to the WIRE format.
Geometry saved in WIRE or APF format appears in 3ds Max as Body Objects. Units are converted, scale is preserved, and curvature is reproduced accurately. Object names, material names, layers, and hierarchies are all preserved from the original file.
Only geometry is imported: Lights and cameras do not import. Image planes are not copied to the 3ds Max scene; neither are dimensions and annotations.
You can export to the WIRE format as well. (An alternate method is to export to the OBJ format, which Alias can also import.)
No interface displays when you import a WIRE or APF file: After time to load the geometry, the objects appear in 3ds Max viewports.
